Since I don't have a covered deck here, I'm not able to do it exactly the same way, but I did come up with a crafty solution. So my deck, it's gonna have cool lights in no time. Here's! What we'll need for this quick and easy project? A tape measure? A miter saw one buy for pressure-treated lumber, a hacksaw, a drill driver, exterior wood screws, black spray-paint shepherd's, hooks conduit, straps cup, hooks string lights, and any additional lighting to make your outdoor space safer and more festive.
So my crazy idea is to use Shepherd's hooks to hang the lights from I'll mount them on the outside of the deck. It'Ll sit right here on the deck, and then the lights will hang above and give it a really cool vibe. So my first step is to fill this void so that I can securely attach the shepherd's hook to the deck handrails to fill those voids. I'm going to use 1 by 4 pressure treated lumber, which, when cut down, will cover the 4x4 post perfectly.
The hooks need to be spaced evenly apart in order to support the string lights. I'd say about every 6 feet, so first determine which post will be covered and then measure the height of each one, take those measurements and cut each one by four to size. It's a great idea if you have leftover paint or stain from when you coated your deck, to go ahead and apply it to yours so that it matches your existing deck as close as possible. Before you attach it.
I want the hardware to match the hook, so I'm spray painting each conduit, strap and glossy black. While these dry, I'm gon na start furring out the post. The next step is to install the conduit straps to hold the hook in place now. This is my dad's idea, but don't tell him, I thought it was a good one. I already cut off the excess stake at the bottom of the hook and it leaked a little jaggedness behind. So I'm going to cover that up by installing my bottom strap right.
